Triumph Speed Twin for sale

SELLER SAYS: Recent shed find, cleaned-up and running. Oil pressure is fine. New oils. Runs sweet (no smoke at all). Runs, rides and stops ok. Globes changed to 12 volt. Will work with new battery. Will suit a restorer or just ride and tinker. The frame and engine numbers seem right for the year. Sidecar included. Tyres ok. Has plenty of patina. Later Amal carb. Asking $13,500 for the bike with the chair. Contact Alex on 0417 955 850 (Bunbury, Western Australia).

EDITOR TERLICK SAYS: In these days of globalisation and internet-connectedness, it’s a whole lot easier to restore an old motorbike. A few clicks on the mouse, a swipe or two of the credit card, and you can have a bunch of shiny new parts on the way from the other side of the planet. Half an hour on YouTube and you know how to dismantle and remantle (?) an Amal carb. In fact, so many old bikes have been rescued that it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find vintage bikes that have not been restored. And whether you want an old bike to make like-new again, or an old bike to leave old but make functional, here’s a beauty. The Speed Twin was the backbone of Triumph for many years and was pretty much the bike that created the parallel twin as the mainstream engine format. With a genuine relaxed 70mph cruising speed, the Speed Twin was a big step up from the big singles that preceded it. This bike of Alex’s is a rare find indeed, with the addition of a chair, and a whole bunch of old-bike patina. Lovely!
