Triumph T100 Special for sale

SELLER SAYS: Purchased whilst serving in Malaysia. Originally owned by an Officer in the British Army who ordered replacement bikes for his soldiers and ordered this bike for himself. I have the original registration papers from Malaysia. I purchased the bike in 1968 and used it in Malaysia and shipped it back to Australia when I returned. I rode it for couple of years then it was stored for some years as I had a family. I suffered a breakdown in 1977 and have unable to return to work. To get this bike completely restored on the drip system (by the drip system, I mean do some work when I could get some money) the restoration took some years as I was hospitalised for some time (PTSD). I continued with the restoration to completion. It is beautiful. After restoration, this bike was written up in Old Bike Australasia magazine (see article below). It was restored by Bryce Findlay at “Early Triumph Motorcycles”. I have all the paperwork that he sent me detailing the work. It will be a sad day when it goes but I am nearing 80 years old and have to downsize. Contact Barry by email at grumpymongrel@bigpond.com (Wangaratta, Victoria)

EDITOR TERLICK SAYS: A rare piece of machinery here, and one with a wonderful back-story that you can read below. It also has a great recent story. When Barry first contacted us in early November, he had long since lost the article in OBA, and was having a struggle getting fresh photos. With help from Barry’s family and OBA Editor Jim Scaysbrook, we were finally able to pull this ad together with lovely pics and the article in its entirety- many thanks to Jim! I won’t try to replicate the whole article, but the fascinating bit for me is that fact that Malaya would only allow motorcycles up to 500cc in 1962, so the British Army commissioned Triumph to build a handful — reportedly just eight or nine — high-performance T100s for Army use. Fortunately, the subsequent restoration in Australia was aware of the bike’s very special history so it wasn’t downgraded to regular T100 spec in the rebuild. A bike for the avid vintage Triumph collector who thought he had everything!

The article from Old Bike Australasia magazine, edition 58, with thanks to and permission from OBA Editor Jim Scaysbrook.
