EDITOR TERLICK SAYS:  Motorcycle history has a smattering of bikes that genuinely changed the course of bike design – and Triumph’s Speed Twin is one of them. Created by Edward Turner, probably the most influential individual in Triumph’s long history, the Speed Twin single-handedly (or perhaps that should be twin-conrodly) redirected mainstream bikes from single cylinders to twins; paving the way for even more cylinders, bigger capacities and ultimately more speed in the decades that followed. When it was unveiled in 1937 it was the top of the Triumph range and probably the most desirable mass-produced motorcycle that money could buy. As the years passed, it was overtaken (figuratively and literally) by various other models, including Triumph’s own Tiger and Bonneville, but it remained a big seller and was hugely important to Triumph’s reputation and its bottom line. This bike of John’s looks like a lovely example of one of history’s most influential bikes. Learn more here.
