EDITOR TERLICK SAYS: When you talk about two-stroke triples in the company of people old enough to remember them, most will respond with tales of woe or lust – and be almost certainly referencing Kawasaki’s 500 H1 and 750 H2. The big triples were fearsome machines — over-engined for their frames, suspension and tyres, but fast, furious and as much fun as motorcycles could be. The 250 did not have the white-knuckle of speed of its older siblings, but it turned out to be a bigger success. The 250 out-sold the 500 and 750, and out-lasted them. And when it came to fun, it was arguably a better machine too. With fewer horses to test it, the KH250 handled just fine and was plenty fast enough to be a thrilling commuter or weekend plaything. The same can be said about the KH today, with the added joy of the now rare-as-can-be burble of a two stroke engine. This bike of Clive’s looks like a beauty – freshly restored and very nicely done. We saw it in the flesh at the recent The Bike Shed Times Capel River Classic Show & Shine and it looks as good in real life as it does in the photos. Great stuff.
