Honda CB1100RC for sale

SELLER SAYS: Australian delivered 1981 Honda CB1100RC in excellent original condition. I have had the bike for the past 12 years and in that time I have maintained a folder containing receipts etc for work done, including oil changes. The bike presents beautifully for its age and rides extremely well. The bike is fitted with new tires and is currently on non-transferable historic registration. No test rides and inspection by appointment. Contact Geoff on 0438 668 165 (Ballina, New South Wales).

EDITOR TERLICK SAYS: Australia never has had a motorcycle manufacturing industry as such. Sure, we did have the Alron dirt bikes (and if you can’t remember them, well, what the heck?) but we’ve never actually built big, fast, successful bikes. Except, wait a minute. It was an Aussie who created the V-twin Vincent, right? Right. And believe it or not, this bike of Geoff’s has a kinda-made-in-Australia story to it. Or perhaps “made-for-Australia” is a better term.  Honda’s CB1100R was created for one reason — to win the 1980 Castrol Six-Hour at Sydney’s Amaroo Park. And it did. With Andrew Johnston and a young up-and-coming lad named Wayne Gardner behind the bars, Honda took home the six-hour silverware for the first time since 1972. It had been an embarrassingly long drought. (In 1971, Honda Fours took nine of the top ten spots. Eight of those bikes had to stop for fresh tyres, enabling a Yamaha XS650 to overtake them all and finish second behind the only Honda that battled on with one set of tyres. True story.) The CB1100R really was a race bike first and a road bike second. No surprise that it was hellishingly expensive, with 115hp on tap and out-of-this world trickery including magnesium engine covers. Whack-a-do! This bike of Geoff’s looks like an absolute beauty.
