EDITOR TERLICK SAYS: Ready to race, or maybe ready to polish. It’s not hard to make a case for this wonderful CR of Greg’s to be retired to the games room, given its lofty place in history. Esteemed American motocross journal Motocross Action, which was the equivalent of Playboy magazine to me and my mates in the 1980s, named the CR250 as 250 Bike of the Year for five years straight from 1983 to 1987, putting this bike smack-bang in the middle of that winning streak. Forty motocross seasons later, MXA’s opinion of the CR hasn’t diminished, and you’ll find this quote on their website today: “During that five-year period (1983-87), Honda produced some of the greatest 250cc motocross bikes ever made.” High praise indeed, for one of history’s truly great dirt bikes. Of course, there are plenty of folks out there who race vintage motocrossers today and, just like they did in 1985, they still want to win. Lining up at the gate aboard an ’85 CR250, channelling Jeff Ward or Johnny O’Mara,  provides an excellent start.
