EDITOR TERLICK SAYS: Crazy light, crazy fast and styled to look like the road-going race bikes that they were, Suzuki’s early GSX-R750 and GSX-R1100 turned the sports bike genre on its head. The 750 was first off the block, and it was a stunner. When the 1100 arrived, everyone was gobsmacked. The 125hp engine propelled the big-bore Gixxer to 150mph, thanks mainly to its featherweight 197kg. And that sub-200kg was also a big part of the secret to the bike’s outstanding handling. Those numbers don’t sound so amazing 40-years on, of course, but the big GSX-R is still a handful of a beast today. This bike of Jason’s looks to have had some history, therefore hitting the market at a rarely-low price point for such a collectible. It would be a great buy for someone who wants to recommission it, give it a good thrashing for a while, then semi-retire to the shed for a thorough restoration. Incidentally, I found an excellent article on-line by a moto journo who rode the GSX-R when it was a new thing, and rode another one recently for some modern-day context.
