EDITOR TERLICK SAYS: High-end track-ready exotic sports bikes don’t come much more desirable than Aprilia’s RSV1000R – unless, of course, it’s the even-more desirable ‘Factory’ iteration like this one. In the minds of many open-class sports riders, the Italian brand has gone from quirky odd-ball to mainstream powerhouse in recent years, thanks to increasingly impressive performances in the heady world of MotoGP racing. Right now, three of the top five riders in MotoGP are aboard Aprilias, including current points leader Jorge Martin. (The other two spots in the top five are both filled by Ducatis. That’s right, not a Jap bike in sight.) Of course, the 2026 crop of Italian sports bikes all have four cylinders. And while the extra two pots might deliver the outright speed necessary to win at the top level, there are plenty of folks (me included) who prefer the sound, feel and history associated with a high-performance twin cylinder – especially one that’s good for 0-100kmh in three seconds and a top speed of 280kmh. More at home on a race track than a highway, with hard suspension and racer-crouch ergonomics, the big Aprilia nonetheless has a huge and passionate following of road riders who adore huge performance from a pair of big pistons. With less than 15,000km on the clock, this bike of Mick’s presents as a remarkably affordable ticket into a rarified atmosphere of sports bike exotica. Glorious.
