EDITOR TERLICK SAYS: Triumph does a great job of building niche motorcycles that appeal to a big audience. I know that sounds like a contradiction, but it isn’t. In this case, the niche is ‘cruiser’ — a big audience for sure, and one dominated by Harleys and Japanese bikes that look like Harleys. And that’s where Triumph does such a good job. The Storm does not look like its trying to be a Harley. And it doesn’t need to – because it looks like a great big, low, muscular parallel-twin Triumph. It screams “made in England, recently”, while maintaining that visual lineage that still, after all these years, somehow connects with the seminal Triumph Bonneville of the mid-20th Century. It’s not the lunatic hot rod of the Triumph Rocket III, but with almost 100hp and 115ft/lbs from its 1700cc twin-cyliner motor it’s got plenty of grunt when you’re in a hurry or feeling a need for speed. This looks like a very tidy example of the breed with low kays and a few tasty extras. Nice.
