Past and Future
The Ducati Diavel Diesel is the result of a collaboration between Andrea Rosso, the Creative Director of Diesel Licenses, and the Ducati Design Center. The inspiration for their work is an imaginary post-apocalyptic and retro-futuristic world with a hyperkinetic vitality.
“The Ducati Diavel Diesel will be produced in a limited and numbered edition of only 666 motorcycles. Each bike is made unique by a plate on the frame bearing its progressive number.”
Tank cover
The Ducati Diavel Diesel features hand-brushed steel superstructures with visible welds and rivets, making it absolutely unique and timeless. Details such as the tank cover, the headlight fairing and the passenger seat cover are examples of craftsmanship and style.

EDITOR TERLICK SAYS: Want to go real fast — and I mean real fast — on a bike that’s about as stylish as any motorbike has ever been? Well, step right up. The word ‘Diesel’ in this bike’s model name isn’t about truck fuel. It reflects Ducati’s collaboration with Italian design house Diesel, best known in the non-bike world for its way-cool denim jeans and flash watches, to put a moody Mad Max spin on Ducati’s truly bonkers performance cruiser, the Diavel. As you might have guessed, ‘diavel’ is the Italian word for devil, while the limited run of 666 bikes picks up on the number of the beast. I can remember the first time I saw a Diavel. I thought it was the most non-Ducati Ducati I’d ever seen. A Ducati cruiser? Like, really? But there it was, squat low, massive back tyre, sombre paint scheme, looking more than a little like Harley-Davidson’s V-Rod. But when I looked a bit closer, the Ducati DNA was there. The engine looked like it had been nicked from an 1198, the frame was trellis, and the brakes and suspension looked serious. I shouldn’t have been surprised, really. I had a similar WTF moment when Ducati released the ST2, its first sports tourer. It seemed blasphemous. But the ST2 wasn’t just a sports tourer, it was a magnificent sports tourer. Because that’s how Ducati work. If they decide to have a crack at a new market segment, they don’t roll out an also-ran to pick up a few sales. They aim for the top of the hill and give it everything they’ve got. And in the performance-cruiser segment (old blokes like me would just call them muscle bikes, to be honest), the defining feature is all about acceleration. I found a road test article online from American bike magazine Cycle World, in which they put the 2017 Diavel Diesel against a stop watch. The outcome: “… the quickest zero-to-60-mph time of any production motorcycle Cycle World has ever tested.” Like I said, real fast. This bike of Russell’s presents as a near-new example of one of modern history’s fastest and most stylish machines, perfect for someone who wants to stand out in a crowd and then leave the crowd for dust. Cool as.
