BORN-again American bike manufacturer Indian has joined the bobber party, unveiling pics of its own Indian Scout Bobber.

The bike won’t be seen in Australia until late in the year and is expected to sell for $19,000, give or take.

The Bobber loses an inch of rear suspension from the standard Scout and has different handlebars, seat and footpegs, all of which Indian says creates a more aggressive riding position.

Most of the other changes are cosmetic including lots of black paint, chunky tyres, chopped fenders, and various colour options.

Indian Motorcycle’s Peter Harvey describes the Bobber as Indian’s “most raw and mean machine to date”.

“It’s the ultimate in the celebration of what motorcycling is about – a powerful engine, two wheels, and no plans of where to go,” he says.

“It’s an incredibly fun motorcycle that delivers a ton of attitude, along with a ton of power.”

Official specs (down the bottom of the page) promise 97.7 Newtons of torque from the 1133cc engine, a seat height of 649mm, and a wet weight (full tank) of 254kg. They don’t give us an official horsepower figure but the base Scout generates around 100 making the Indian slightly heavier but more powerful than Triumph’s Bobber, on paper at least. (We took the Triumph for a quick blast recently. Read our report here.)

Both are lighter and harness more ponies than the Harley 1200 Sportster.

Here’s a few pics.
