EDITOR TERLICK SAYS: A wonderful piece of moto history, this one — harking back to Moto Guzzi’s early years and it’s glory years. While these days most of us associate Moto Guzzi with big V-twins, the marque was born of a 500cc single-cylinder engine which evolved and varied (but not very much) to see life as a race bike, road bike, and police bike. It’s worth remembering that in the 1950s, Moto Guzzi was Italy’s biggest bike manufacturer with more than 1,500 staff and a fierce reputation on the race track. That’s also the era when Guzzi built their truly amazing V8 race bike and won the 350 GP world title five years in a row. They truly were the pin-up bikes of the era. The Falcone, in several variants, had a long production life that ran into the 1970s and it’s engine was the foundation of the company for a generation. This bike of Rob’s looks like a beauty, wearing its age with pride and showing some wonderful patina. I have tracked down an excellent article about the Falcone, from ‘This Old Tractor’ — here’s the link: https://www.thisoldtractor.com/mg_manuals/falcone_sport_buyers_guide.pdf
