Capel motorbike show recognised for community contribution

THE Bike Shed Times Capel River Classic Motorcycle Show & Shine has been awarded a civic award, recognising its contribution to the community.

Capel Shire President Doug Kitchen said the ‘2024 Community Event of The Year Award’ had been awarded to the Capel River Classic “in recognition of its contribution and benefit that it brings to our local community.”

“An additional factor in the event’s success was the effort and professionalism that the volunteer members of the Ironstone Adventure Riding Club and their event partner The Bike Shed Times, supported by the Indian Harley Club (Bunbury), exhibited in planning, organising and running of such a successful event,” Cr Kitchen said.

“Well done to you all.”

The 2024 event featured a swap meet and classic car show, as well as the traditional show and shine and ‘rustic’ off-road rally.

Event spokesmen Jeremy Connor from the IARC and Peter Terlick from The Bike Shed Times said they were delighted that the event had received the award.

“I think everyone appreciates that a lot of work goes into an event like this,” Jeremy said, “with a small army of volunteers putting in a lot of hours to make it happen. It’s great to have that effort acknowledged, and we’re very pleased that the event is providing benefit to the Capel community.”

Peter said he was honoured to be part of an event that generated so much good will.

“The show and shine gives a bunch of old blokes a great excuse to show off their bikes and chew the fat,” he said.

“It’s a marvellous thing for our mental health, and it’s wonderful to be contributing something to the local community.”

The Bike Shed Times Capel River Classic is on again this year, on Saturday October 18. For more details, keep an eye on The Bike Shed Times website and Facebook page, or visit https://www.facebook.com/events/2126107271157616
